My website is showing a 500 Internal Server Error. What do I do?

Most '500 internal server error' messages are caused by a module installed on Hightek's servers called suPHP

If you're receiving a 500 error, check the following;

- File permissions - ensure the mode is not set above 755.
- File owner - the file owner (and group) must be set to your FTP/cPanel username.
- .htaccess file - .htaccess files should not contain any PHP flags. These should be included in a php.ini file.

The other common cause is incorrect permissions for CGI scripts. Ensure that the .cgi script itself, as well as the directory it is in, has the permissions/mode set to 755.

If you have tried these but are still receiving an error, submit a Support Ticket to our technical support team.
